CRIA and BioFlux are pleased to share a new whitepaper, Scaling Biochar Carbon Removal in India: Opportunities, Challenges, and Policy Pathways, authored by Srishti Singh and Paul Préaux. The report explores how biochar can serve as one of India’s most promising and immediately deployable durable carbon dioxide removal (CDR) pathways.

The report estimates that India could currently deliver approximately 0.2 gigatons of net carbon removal annually, with the potential to scale to 0.45 gigatons by 2030, representing a market opportunity of up to USD 45 billion per year under conservative assumptions.

As India seeks climate solutions that align with agricultural resilience, industrial competitiveness, and rural development, biochar stands out as a pathway with the potential to deliver durable carbon removal alongside significant economic and social co-benefits.
